Playground Makeover Update

By | September 20, 2017
We are finally able to move forward on perimeter plantings for the common area playground.  It’s been almost a year since this project was stalled by negotiations over the 30 foot wide sewer easement that parallels the fence behind the playground.  Our backyard neighbor, Sparky Lerch, intended to expand his yard and move his fence, which required tree and stump removal and significant grading.  That work schedule was hampered by weather and Mr. Lerch’s health issues; unfortunately, Mr. Lerch died in May.  I have been negotiating with his estate since, also waiting for planting season, and feel that we can now move forward.  Fortunately, the timing works well for landscaping.
The plan has been to plant an evergreen screen that will serve as an attractive and natural boundary for the common area.  Most of the original “committee” has moved out of the neighborhood in the last year, but the plan and budget have not changed.  We still intend to plant groupings that will include magnolias, osmanthus / tea olive, and indigenous tree-form hollies (not the thorned variety).  We will also be sowing grass seed after the equipment and major planting is completed.
I’ve been eager to get this project done, and I’m thrilled that we can pick up where we left off.  Please contact me if you have any questions, since work will probably begin before the next monthly board meeting.
